What is Weed and Seed?

Weed & Seed is a community-based, collaborative effort that builds partnerships between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, social service providers, government agencies, businesses and neighborhood residents under the shared goal of "weeding" out violent crime, gang activity and blight, while "seeding" in social services and neighborhood revitalization.

WEEDING out crime and blight,

SEEDING in services and neighborhood revitalization

Paradise South, Modesto's Weed and Seed site, was officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice in June 2005. This recognition allowed Paradise South to be eligible for up to $1 million in federal funding over five years.

The Paradise South Weed and Seed designated area is from State Route 99 Southwest on H Street/Paradise Road to Carpenter Road; from Carpenter Road south to the Tuolumne River, the River east to State Route 99, and State Route 99 north to H Street.

Paradise South Weed and Seed is a fund of the Stanislaus Community Foundation.

The Weed and Seed strategy focuses on four elements: Law Enforcement, Community Policing, Prevention/ Intervention/Treatment, and Neighborhood Restoration.
