What is Weed & Seed?
WEED & SEED is a community-based multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and neighborhood restoration. Weed and Seed links federal, state, and local social services, private sector plus community efforts, to maximize the impact of existing community programs and resources. The strategy is to:
- "Weed" out drug trafficking, gangs, violent crimes and related offenses through coordinated law enforcement and community policing; and
- "Seed" the designated areas with prevention, intervention and treatment programs designed to meet the communities' needs for training, mentoring programs and employment opportunities.
Paradise South - Gateway to Change was designated as a Weed & Seed Community by the United States Department of Justice in June 2005. The purpose of Paradise South is to unite the area residents, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, civic, community and other program organizations to develop, collaborative, promote and implement the elements of the Paradise South Weed and Seed Strategic Plan in an effort to restore Paradise South to a safe and healthy neighborhood.
