Abandoned Vehicle Abatement: For questions: please contact 342-6172

These vehicles are subjected to being towed by the Modesto Police- at the owner's expense:

  • Any vehicle on any street for more than 72 hours.
  • Abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, or inoperative vehicles or parts on public or private property.
  • Vehicles missing operational parts.
  • Vehicles with expired tags over 6 months

  • All dogs must be licensed and the tag must be displayed on the animal.
  • Dogs are required to say on their property (no trespassing
  • Each residence may not have more than two (2) dogs over the age of 5 months
  • Each residence is allowed 2 dogs, 3 cats, 12 fowl NO roosters allowed.

Nuisance Abatement: For questions please contact 577-5250

  • Property: must be kept free and clear of all junk, nuisance vegetation, and other materials
  • Alleys: It is unlawful to place or allow to remain in any alley, personal property except garbage containers
  • Mobile living quarters: It is unlawful for any person to occupy or permit the occupancy of any mobile living quarters on the property. (camper, motor home, etc.)
  • Illegal home business: You may not have a home business that requires the home to be used as a storage place or that displaces the required parking (garage)
  • Garage Sales: Each property is allowed two (2) garage sales per year. Each yard sale may only last three (3) consecutive days.

It is a public nuisance and a violation for residents to permit one (1) or more of the following activities:

  • Illegal sale or use of illegal drugs
  • Frequent gathering, or coming and going, of people who have an intent to purchase or use illegal drugs on the premises
  • The occurrence of prostitution
  • Unlawful activities of a criminal street gang
  • Five (5) calls for service over any ninety (90) day period for loud noise
  • The firing of gunshots or brandishing of weapons by a resident or by a guest of a resident
  • The use of property or provide shelter to or seclusion of any action, act, or occurrence which is a crime under Federal, State, or local laws.

Graffiti Prohibited

  • It is unlawful for any person to apply graffiti or allow any graffiti to remain upon property they own/control when the graffiti is visible from the street or other public or private property

  • City of Modesto residents having the black and green garbage containers are entitled to the following

Tire recycling

  • City of Modesto residents are allowed to recycle up to 8 tires per year
  • Contact your garbage company to find out when the next event is scheduled for.
  • Ask for a coupon to be mailed to your residence
  • Take the tires and the coupon to your garbage hauler during the next event

Bulky Item Collection

  • Contact your garbage company to schedule your appointment
  • Place items in the street the night before your appointment

    • Washers/dryers*
    • Toilets/sinks/tubs
    • Couches/sofas
    • Tables/Chairs
    • Hot tubs

    • Cardboard- dry & bundled
    • *All doors must be removed for safety
    • **All fluids must be removed
  • Unacceptable Items
    • No bags or boxes of trash/clothing
    • No auto parts or tires
    • No construction debris
    • No toxic materials/paint
    • No propane tanks
    • No dirt/sod/yard waste
    • No types of liquid
    • No dead animals
    • No glass or mirrors
    • No fencing materials
    • No business materials
    • No television or computer monitors

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) Recycling

  • Residents can recycle two (2) CRT's (televisions, computer monitors, camcorders, etc) per calendar year
  • Call your garbage company and request a "CRT" coupon be mailed to you
  • Take your CRT(s) and the coupon to your garbage company to be recycled
